Description: Former CIA Analyst Ray McGovern will be a guest speaker at the University of South Florida Tuesday, September 21, 2004. The lecture, The Use and Abuse of Intelligence and How it Affects the Wars we Wage, will cover recent intelligence failures in the U.S. including questions surrounding the war in Iraq. The lecture will begin at 11 a.m. in the Grace Allen Room of the USF-Tampa Library. Sponsored by USFs International Affairs Center, Mr. McGovern will also be speaking at UF, FIU, UCF, and UNF. Admission is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Bio on Ray McGovern Raymond L. McGoverns first career, as a CIA analyst, spanned 27 yearsfrom the administration of John F. Kennedy to George H. W. Bush. Mr. McGoverns responsibilities at CIA included chairing National Intelligence Estimates and preparing the Presidents Daily Brief (PDB). In early 2003, when the integrity and efficacy of the intelligence community was questioned, a handful of intelligence community alumni/ae, including Mr. McGovern, created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. VIPS now includes over 40 former professionals from various security agencies. McGovern is a prolific writer on intelligence issues in various articles and books and has been interviewed by Jim Lehrer, Deborah Norville, and Charlie Rose. Mr. McGovern received his B.A. from Fordham College. Designated a Distinguished Military Graduate, he was commissioned in the US Army in which he served two years as an infantry/intelligence officer. McGovern holds an M.A. in Russian Studies from Fordham University, a certificate in Theological Studies from Georgetown University, and graduated from Harvard Business Schools Advanced Management Program. - - - For more information, visit the IAC Website at
