Title: Teaching Foreign Languages: Practical Insights

Description: The Department of World Languages will feature two speakers, Mariam Manzur-Leiva and Chloe Savenko, to share their insight and personal experiences in teaching foreign languages. The presentation by Mariam Manzur-Leiva will focus on proficiency based teaching and learning tools. Attendees will be exposed to a theoretical background about the concept of proficiency and to an overview of the current American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency guidelines. The presenter will share strategies and practical ideas that can be implemented in the classroom in order to follow the set standards and achieve proficiency. The presentation by Chloe Savenko will focus on the experience of a teaching assistant (TA) in the World Languages Department. The presentation will demonstrate the importance of experiential learning through teaching and the in-class experience. This event is hosted by Phi Sigma Iota, the International Foreign Language Honor Society. A USF World International Education Month Event!
