Title: Confucius Institute Lecture: The Silk Road in History
Date: Thu. Oct 31, 2013
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

The Confucius Institute welcomes Dr. Xinru Liu, Associate Professor in the College of New Jersey’s History department, to present a Confucius Institute Lecture based on her book, The Silk Road in World History (Oxford University Press, 2010). Dr. Liu will examine the dynamic interactions of the nomadic pastoralists with sedentary agriculturalists, and the spread of new ideas, religions, and values into the world of commerce, thus illustrating the cultural forces underlying material transactions. The effort of tracing the interconnections of the diverse participants in the transcontinental Silk Road exchange demonstrates that the world had been linked through economic and ideological forces long before the modern era.
