Symposium on Sustainable Development and Globalization II "Poverty and Environmental Sustainability: Global Perspectives"
Mon. Jun 06, 2005
9:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Environmental sustainability, meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, cannot be isolated from issues of poverty. Poor people in developing and developed countries alike do not have the luxury of preserving the environment. A downward spiral ensures, in which socio-economically vulnerable populations cannot afford to protect the environment, nor can they afford to protect themselves from environmental degradation. This symposium analyzes grassroots and public policy efforts to address these issues.
