Title: “Ellis Island on the Land: Gardens of Migration” Spencer Cahill Lecture Series
Date: Fri. Feb 05, 2016
Time: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Description:

The sociology department is honored that Dr. Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, a world renowned immigration scholar, has accepted our invitation to be the capstone colloquium speaker for the Spencer Cahill lecture on February 5, 2016.  Her talk will focus on her recent work that explores the interrelationship between migration, gender and what she refers to as “plant nature.”   Her talk will focus on how recent migrants bridge with more established networks of people through engagement with the soil, plants, and water in community gardens.  Gardening bridges a wide range of people through collective work, leisure, shared experiences that, in turn, influences social inequality, global sustainability, and food insecurity.
