Description: Each year a distinguished scholar from the Americas is invited to the Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean (ISLAC) at the University of South Florida, to give a lecture reflecting new thinking or groundbreaking research on topics of interest for all the Americas. The distinguished lecture is named in honor of Juan Bosch (1909-2001), former President of the Dominican Republic, a leading thinker, writer and essayist of the Americas. This year ISLAC is proud to present Dr. Eduardo Gotuzzo H., Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Tropical Medicine at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and director of both the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine and the Gorgas Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine. Dr. Gotuzzo has also contributed extensively to the field of tropical medicine with more than 250 publications at the national and international level.
