Guatemala: Current Conditions and Realities: This is a lecture/discussion that is intended to help participants gain a better understanding of conditions and realities of people living in Guatemala. It will shed some light current events including, immigration and people of the caravan, US government assisted funding assistance for community development, and its place on the world stage. Dr. John van Keppel has more than 30 years of experience working in sustainable community development. He lived in Guatemala for 20 years where he worked with communities and organizations in land reform, housing, education, women’s health and job training for youth. Prior to moving to Guatemala he taught courses in cross-cultural communication and directed an international service-learning program at Seattle Pacific University.
