Title: Students of India Association Cultural Night: Diwali
Date: Sat. Oct 17, 2009
Time: 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Description: Indians celebrate Diwali as the Festival of Lights, linked to the ancient legend of King Rama's victory over the forces of evil. The joyous event is celebrated by lighting fireworks and diyas cotton-like string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil to signify victory of good over the evil within an individual. With more and more Indians migrating to various parts of the world, a number of countries now celebrate Diwali. The event is open to all; it hosts an open stage for anyone to showcase their talent (singing, dancing, mono acts, etc.). Dinner will be served. The evening culminates with a Bollywood Jam session (DJ playing Bollywood dance hits, open dance floor).
