Title: Shamanism in China: The Revival of a Cultural and Healing Tradition

Description: Join the USF Confucius Institute for the first talk in the 2010-11 Lecture Series. USF Confucius Institute Director, Kun Shi, will introduce the current status of research and practices of shamanism in China. The talk will focus on several new museums on the Tungus shamanic tradition. It will describe the presenter's fieldwork with some of the shamans of the Tungus-speaking peoples in Northeast China, and attempt to provide an explanation for the revival of shamanism in today's political environment. The presentation will be accompanied by photo slides and video clips.
