Description: The lecture is about images of women in folklore, particularly among the Yi and other ethnic minority peoples in Southwest China. It will present stories and colorful images of these people, many of which are not known to outsiders. The speaker is Dr. Mark Bender, Professor of Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Ohio State University. He has done extensive research in China and published numerous books and papers on folklore and folk literature in China, as well.
