China Earthquake Relief: A CALL FOR HELP

Together We Can Make a Difference

On May 12, 2008, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the Sichuan province in southwest China. According to the official figures, the current death toll is almost 20,000 as now, may reach as high as 50,000, and many more severely injured. Tens of thousands of people are left homeless across the disaster zone, and more are suffering from losing their loved ones. Numerous schools were destroyed, with students and teachers buried under debris. As rescue workers reach more remote areas, these numbers are expected to climb. This is the most devastating earthquake China has seen in thirty years.

After the earthquake shook the land, our hearts were brought together.
Many local organizations in various U.S. cities mobilized to help the victims. In order to support the current rescue efforts, the Chinese American Association of Tampa Bay (CAAT), the Suncoast Association of Chinese Americans (SACA), the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay (CCCTB), and the USF Confucius Institute are joining their efforts and calling on everyone to lend a helping hand by making a donation to help those who are suffering from this catastrophe.

We have opened a special account to receive donations from all members of our community. You can make your donation by electronic wiring, check, money order, direct fund transfer, or simply depositing your donation at the teller's counter at any Bank of America.

Please confirm your donation by sending an email to TB.quakedonation@gmail.com, and include your name, mailing address, email address and donation amount so that we can mail or email you the receipt.

Your donations will be sent to the Chinese Consulate General in Houston to be pooled with its special relief fund. All donors will receive a receipt from CAAT, a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the donation will be tax deductible. We will also publish account details periodically for public monitoring. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at TB.quakedonation@gmail.com.

You may also make donations to other organizations, such as the Red Cross, if you so choose.
