The USF Confucius Institute is a partnership between USF and Qingdao University. It is one of over 400 Confucius Institutes worldwide. USF is the first university in Florida and the first major public research university in the Southeastern United States to establish a Confucius Institute in early 2008.

The USF Confucius Institute provides

    • Academic support to the USF Chinese language program and other related disciplines;
    • Community engagement in Tampa Bay to promote cross-cultural understanding through cultural performance and CI Lectures;
    • Outreach to K-12 schools to improve and expand Chinese language programs; and
    • Help to create a statewide network on educational initiatives related to Chinese language, tourism, trade, and sustainable healthy communities.

First USF Confucius Institute Chinese Culture Week Completed with Great Success
September 22, 2016

In addition to its strong support for the Chinese language programs at USF and local K-12 schools, the USF Confucius Institute has enhanced programs that promote cross-cultural understanding and US-China relations in the Tampa Bay region. The best example of this effort is the Chinese Culture Week with multiple opportunities for cultural exploration: a photo exhibition, a CI lecture, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and a concert with Chinese and Western music. Together, the events reached more than 1,500 USF students and faculty/staff, as well as community members, and received positive feedback from participants. Read More


“People and Places of China” Photo Exhibition

USF World and the USF Confucius Institute are pleased to host the president of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), Dr.¬†Sidney A. McPhee, for his photography exhibition “People and Places of China” hosted in the Centre Gallery at the USF Marshall Student Center from September 12 to 23, 2016.¬†The exhibition is a selection of his photographs taken during recent travels in China. 2016 Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for Florida High School Students

The USF Confucius Institute (CI) continues its support in organizing Florida high school students for study trips to China. With support from the Hanban and Qingdao University, the CI sponsored 15 students for a total immersion experience in Chinese language and culture from June 27 to July 12. The students and their parents are very excited about the opportunity and happy with the experience. Read More
