Nankai University Celebrates 90 Years
October 2009

Dr. Roger Brindley, Interim Associate Director of the USF World, Dr. María Crummett, Dean, International Affairs, Dr. Donna Petersen, Interim Executive Director of USF World, and the USF Confucius Institute staff, wish Nankai University a happy 90th birthday! Nankai University and USF have been partners for more than 20 years.  






Chinese National Day & Moon Festival
September 30, 2009

On Wednesday, September 30, 2009 the USF Confucius Institute (CI) celebrated Chinese National Day and the Moon Festival. Students studying Chinese language and culture and the Confucius Institute staff celebrated by performing Chinese songs, jokes, stories, and playing traditional folk instruments.

Miami Dade College Receives Approval for Confucius Institute
September 4, 2009

Miami Dade College will house the second Confucius Institute in the state of Florida. The new CI is set to open in within one year. Read the full article>>

USF CI Hosts Workshop for Hillsborough County Teachers
June 15-19, 2009

June 15-19, 2009, the USF Confucius Institute held a Chinese language and culture workshop for Hillsborough county teachers. Thirteen teachers attended the workshop held at the USF Tampa Campus in the College of Business. Dr. Harvey Nelson, USF Professor Emeritus, was a guest lecturer at the workshop in addition to the USF Confucius Institute staff. Topics discussed included; American stereotypes of China, comparison of educational systems, impact of financial crisis on China, culture, values, norms and customs.      View the photo gallery>>

USF Professor, Dr. Eric Shepherd Featured in Chinese Media

Dr. Eric Shepherd, Assistant Professor of Chinese in the USF Department of World Languages, was featured in the Chinese language media for the USF Chinese program and the Confucius Institute. The Chinese media interviewed Dr. Shepherd in Chicago about his personal story and his views on teaching and learning Chinese as an American. Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Offered in September and December
2008

The first HSK in the state of Florida will be held on September 7, sponsored by Confucius Institute at University of South Florida.

The Chinese proficiency Test (HSK) is a series of tests which aim to assess the non-native speakers’ capabilities of applying Chinese language in study, life and work. It consists of HSK (Basic), HSK (elementary-intermediate) and HSK (advanced) tests. At present there are 161 test centers in 38 countries. USF Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony
March 2nd, 2008

Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony The USF Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony was held Sunday, March 2, 2008. International Affairs hosted a delegation from Nankai University, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Houston, and an official from the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. Over 200 students, faculty, staff and members of the Tampa community came to the opening reception. USF is the first university in Florida and the first major public research university in the Southeastern United States to establish a Confucius Institute.
