About GLACIER Tax Prep:
GLACIER Tax Prep is an online tax preparation system designed for use by individuals who are considered nonresidents for federal tax purposes. This software has been purchased by our office to assist USF international students and scholars in F or J status to prepare their U.S. income tax forms, free of charge. This online system is available only to current and recent USF students and scholars in F or J status.
USF students and scholars need an access code to use this online system. International Services emails the access code and instruction sheet to the USF email address of all eligible USF students and scholars in February each year. USF students or scholars in F or J status who did not receive the email can visit International Services to receive the instruction sheet and access code or contact our office by email email@example.com to receive the access code and instructions sheet.. USF students and scholars are cautioned not to share the USF access code with anyone outside of USF. Sharing the access code is a serious violation of the GLACIER Tax Prep - USF licensing agreement and will jeopardize our ability to offer our USF students and scholars this service.
Using GLACIER Tax Prep:
GLACIER TAX PREP is an online system that is encrypted and secured via SSL technology. Please keep in mind that the system does not file the tax return electronically. This is because the IRS does not allow Forms 1040NR and 1040NR-EZ to be filed electronically. Students and scholars must print, sign, and mail the tax forms generated by GLACIER Tax Prep and will need access to a printer. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the process.
It is recommended that students and scholars gather all documents pertaining to immigration status, current/prior visits to the US, employment in the US, and/or US scholarships prior to accessing GLACIER Tax Prep. Students who receive US scholarships or employment should wait until they have received all W-2’s and 1042-S forms before accessing GLACIER Tax Prep.
During the process, students and scholars will create an individual user ID and password that will be used for all further access to the system. There is a “forgot login” feature that can be used after the individual user ID and password is created.
