International Photo & Video Competition
2009 Competition Categories
To celebrate diversity and promote cross-cultural understanding, International Affairs is proud to sponsor the annual International Photo Competition. This contest is designed to offer USF students, professors, staff, and alumni an opportunity to share their international experiences with the University.
Overall, photographs submitted should capture an observation made or experience had while traveling outside the United States. Awards will be given in the following categories:

Best USF Study Abroad Photograph Photos must capture images of students, faculty, or staff visiting sights, engaging in social and cultural activities, interacting with locals, etc. Special consideration will be given to photos with clearly identifiable USF students, faculty, or staff (i.e. wearing USF clothing).

Best International Landscape, Seascape, or Cityscape Photos must be of a landmark or landscape that is clearly identifiable as an international location.

Best Portrait Photos should feature people living in the natural environment or culture of a foreign land.

Grand Prize Photos display exceptional artistic merit and provides an overall representation of the abroad experience
All photos must be original and unaltered.
Video Competition Details
International Affairs and the University Film & Video Association are hosting the Second Annual International Video Contest. The content of the video should have an international context which captures unique images or tells stories of students, faculty, or staff visiting sights, participating in political activities, engaging in social and cultural activities, or interacting with locals. Special consideration will be given to videos with clearly identifiable USF students, faculty, or staff (i.e. wearing USF clothing).
- Entries must state team name, artist(s), producer(s), and/or director. Main contact must be a USF affiliate.
- Categories include: DRAMA/COMEDY/MUSIC VIDEO/DOCUMENTARY/OTHER
- Maximum of 5 minutes in length.

Meet the Judges
Noel Smith
Institute for Research in Art
Noel Smith is Curator of Education/Latin American and Caribbean Art at the Institute for Research in Art/Graphicstudio, Contemporary Art Museum and Public Art at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She co-curated the exhibition The Amazing and the Immutable, combining vintage and contemporary photography, Los Carpinteros: Inventing the World, and Homing Devices, among others. She has an M.A. in art history (with an emphasis on history of photography), directs the USF Museum Studies Graduate Certificate, teaches and lectures widely in the region. Smith is also a literary translator.
Wendy Babcox
School of Art and Art History
Wendy Babcox is a British interdisciplinary artist who received her BFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and her MFA from the University of Florida where she received a Presidential Fellowship. She now teaches at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Her work exists in a wide variety of media including photography, video, installation and performance and has received two public art commissions. She draws upon interrelatedness of site, place and contemporary in her recent works, calling upon the imagery of animals, tourist attractions and acts of female transgression.
