Highlights of Recent CI Programs: “Champions of the Americas” and More

The USF Confucius Institute has made significant contributions in recent years to K-16 Chinese language programs and cultural exchanges at USF and beyond. It hit a milestone this fall by sending two students to the annual international Chinese proficiency competition who won top awards “Champion of the Americas” (after their great performance at the local and regional competitions). This is the first time any American university has ever helped both college and high school students to achieve such titles. (Read More…)

USF Student John Klumpp Wins Top Award in the 2018 International Chinese Bridge Competition

The Chinese Bridge Competition is a platform for American and other foreign students to compete in Chinese language proficiency and cultural talent. Each spring, the USF Confucius Institute hosts a local competition for college and high school students. The top winner from both groups travels to the regional competition at UT Dallas. Right after the Confucius Institute Day event, we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival on October 2 at the University of South Florida (USF) Marshall Student Center Ballroom. Annual “Confucius Institute Day” Events Completed

The fourth annual “Confucius Institute (CI) Day” celebration was held on September 28 during 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the USF Patel Center for Global Solutions. Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Donate 10 Chinese Artifacts to the Confucius Institute

George (Bern) Griffith is a world traveler particularly to the Greater China region. He traveled to Hong Kong and Macao in the late 1950s, and then made numerous trips to China. Over the years, he accumulated a large collection of Chinese artifacts, some dating back to hundreds of years. Recently, he decided to donate ten items to USF to be displayed for the students and faculty as well as the larger community. (Read More…)

Fifth Annual Summer Camp for Florida High School Students to China

The USF Confucius Institute (CI) continues its support in organizing the fifth annual Florida high school students for study trips to China. With support from the Hanban and Qingdao University, the CI sponsored 17 high school students for a total immersion experience in Chinese language and culture from June 19 to July 3. (Read More…)
