QU - USF group at CAMLS

The Qingdao University delegation had a successful visit to USF on June 18-19. It was headed by Ms. Xiaoli Zhou, Assistant President for international programs, with Dr. Yongming Yu (Dean of Medical College) and Dr. Hong Jiang (Academic Director of Medical College). The delegation came to USF after attending a biotechnology conference in Maryland. (Read More…)

Nanchang University Performance Troupe visits Tampa in Mid-April

Sponsored by the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, the Nanchang University Performance Troupe came to perform for the USF audience and Tampa Bay community members on April 13 and for Clearwater High School the next day. Dr. Roger Brindley, Associate Vice President of USF World welcomed Vice President Huang Yun of Nanchang University and his performance troupe. Everyone at both events was deeply impressed by their superb performance of music, dance and opera-singing. The program and selected photos demonstrated their amazing talents. (Read More…)

Ongoing Collaboration between the CI and OLLI

Spring 2013 OLLI Class - Contemporary China (half of the class)

Since we started working with OLLI (USF Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) in the fall of 2011, we have provided five classes (each for 8-12 hours in 4-6 weeks) for senior citizens in the Tampa Bay community. These courses cover a wide range of China-related topics, such as Introduction to Chinese Civilization, Religious Beliefs in China, and Contemporary China. (Read More…)

2013 Chinese Bridge Competition Comes to a Close

The annual Florida Chinese Bridge Competition was organized by the USF Confucius Institute on March 22. The event allows Florida college and high school students to compete in Chinese language and culture proficiency and preform a talent whereby the winners move on to the next round to compete and ultimately travel to China. Winners for the high school group were Jenny Wheeler (1st place, American Heritage School), Zachary Raad (2nd place, Pine Vie School), and Mikaela Arnold (3rd place, Middleton High School). Winners for the college group were George Tedder (1st place, UF), Elizabeth Birmingham (2nd place, USF) and Erika Troconis (3rd place, USF). (Read More…)

Third Annual K-12 Chinese Language Conference for Florida Schools Completed

On February 23 (Saturday), USF Confucius Institute hosted the third annual conference on K-12 Chinese for Florida schools, with almost eighty teachers of Chinese and school administrators coming from across Florida and beyond.
