Spring 2013 OLLI Class - Contemporary China (half of the class)

Since we started working with OLLI (USF Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) in the fall of 2011, we have provided five classes (each for 8-12 hours in 4-6 weeks) for senior citizens in the Tampa Bay community. These courses cover a wide range of China-related topics, such as Introduction to Chinese Civilization, Religious Beliefs in China, and Contemporary China. (Read More…)

This semester, we have co-sponsored five CI lectures for the general public, with three invited speakers from outside of USF (and two by the CI Director). 2013 Chinese Bridge Competition Comes to a Close

The annual Florida Chinese Bridge Competition was organized by the USF Confucius Institute on March 22. The event allows Florida college and high school students to compete in Chinese language and culture proficiency and preform a talent whereby the winners move on to the next round to compete and ultimately travel to China. Winners for the high school group were Jenny Wheeler (1st place, American Heritage School), Zachary Raad (2nd place, Pine Vie School), and Mikaela Arnold (3rd place, Middleton High School). Winners for the college group were George Tedder (1st place, UF), Elizabeth Birmingham (2nd place, USF) and Erika Troconis (3rd place, USF). (Read More…)


Third Annual K-12 Chinese Language Conference for Florida Schools Completed

On February 23 (Saturday), USF Confucius Institute hosted the third annual conference on K-12 Chinese for Florida schools, with almost eighty teachers of Chinese and school administrators coming from across Florida and beyond. Strong Partnership for USF and Qingdao University
