USF Students Make News in Brazil
July 21, 2011
USF students on an education abroad program in Maranhão, Brazil were recently featured on the news page of the Federal University of Maranhão’s (UFMA) university hospital at http://bit.ly/nNVjB1.
Spending a month in Maranhão, seven USF students are visiting the medical facilities at the university hospital, meeting with hospital administrators to learn about the functioning of the health system in Brazil and to better understand the value of public health care in the country.
While there, students have also visited an exhibit of photos, poetry and other artistic media created by the medical and pharmacy faculty on their daily interaction with patients and their families, as well as with doctors. The exhibit represents the effort to humanize treatment further.
Collaborating with universities across the border through its office of Internationalization, UFMA is making a strong effort to engage in exchange activities with academic partners like the University of South Florida to promote cross-cultural discourse on both scientific and cultural platforms.
