USF Faculty Helps Organize International Conferences
July 28, 2011
Dr. John N. Gathegi, professor in the School of Information at the University of South Florida has been invited to join the organizing committees of three major international conferences in 2011-2012. The 3rd International Conference on Information Capital, Property, and Ethics (ICPE) will be held in Guangzhou, China in December 2011. The 2nd ICPE was held in Tampa in October 2010 at the University of South Florida. The 16th International Conference on Electronic Publishing will be held in Guimarães, Portugal in June 2012. Calls for Papers for these two conferences will be forthcoming, but you may contact Dr. Gathegi if interested.
The 3rd International Symposium on Information Management in a Changing World (IMCW2012) to be held in Ankara, Turkey September 2012. The theme of this conference is “E-Science and Information Management.” IMCW2012 brings together researchers and information professionals to discuss the implications of e-science for information management. “E-Science” is defined as collaborative, networked and data-driven science and is driven by the need for researchers to have access to large, distributed data sets on, for example, global warming or gene sequences. Researchers use a set of tools and technologies for data processing and information visualization, meaning that vast amounts of data need to be collected, curated, stored, managed, and preserved to ensure perpetual access via the Internet through cloud computing. Information management and computational skills needed by researchers and information managers to deal with the massive data sets include some understanding of intellectual property rights, open access and data literacy issues, among others.
