March 17, 2010
Dr. Ramaswami Balasubramaniam gave a lively presentation discussing the achievements and challenges in India today in the sectors of health, education, livelihood & employment, democracy and governance. Presenting the social legislation that the government has brought in the last 5 years, he discussed the main issues impacting India’s progress, namely the corruption affecting the process of development, and the inequities prevailing in rural India, where the post-1991 liberalization of the economy had little effect. Dr. Balasubramanian shared with us the work done by his organization SVYM (Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement) in the realm of rural development in the state of Karnataka.
