USF Jazz Ensemble to Play for Italy
June 15, 2012

On Monday, June 18, 2012 students from the USF School of Music will perform at an exclusive concert in Florence, Italy as part of their study abroad program.

Led by Professor Jack Wilkins, Director of Jazz Studies at the USF School of Music, students will perform in Florence at the culmination of the USF Jazz Tour Ensemble Performance Tour program. The ensemble who call themselves The Jazz Circus have been travelling through Italy performing at major jazz venues and will be hosted in Florence by the Palazzi Institute, USF’s official international partner institution in Italy.

Assistant Director of USF Education Abroad Jim Pulos coordinates semester and summer programs to Italy. Pulos says giving students the opportunity to participate in extraordinary events as this only adds to USF’s international profile. “The collaborative efforts between USF and Palazzi, which led to the staging of this wonderful concert event, demonstrate the vast breadth, depth, and variety of programming possible between our two institutions.”

At the end of the Jazz Tour program to Italy, Professor Jack Wilkins will continue on to another summer study abroad program, the USF in Florence Summer 2012 B Session where he will teach the course Survey of Jazz Music.
