CI Advisory Committee Provides Support for Collaboration
December 5, 2013

The CI Advisory Committee was created in late 2012 as an effort to provide guidance and support for CI-related collaborations within USF and beyond. The second Advisory Committee meeting was held on November 8 at 4:00-5:00pm in the Patel Center second floor conference room.

Dr. Brindley, Vice Provost and the Associate VP for USF World, welcomed everyone and urged the CI to collaborate with relevant USF colleges and departments. Then, Kun Shi (CI Director) provided an overview of the CI work in 2013 and the CI Annual Report, including two new projects: CI Performance Group and a conference on China and India. The present Advisory Committee members were impressed by the CI achievements. Later Kun Shi outlined the CI plan for 2014, including greater partnerships and more opportunities for USF students and faculty (such as the new “Confucius China Studies Program” fellowships). The Committee members expressed strong interest in working with the CI and offered suggestions for improving partnerships and program sustainability.

Present at the meeting were Dr. Boo Kwa (Associate Dean of Public Health), Dr. Phil Smith (College of Education), Dr. Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy (Dean, College of Global Sustainability), Elisabeth Condon (Prof. of College of the Arts), Irene Hurst (MBA, College of Business), and Jesse Casanova (International Programs Coordinator for Public Health). Not able to attend the meeting were Drs. Stephan Schindler and Eric Shepherd of the Department of World Languages, Dr. John Sinnott (Associate Dean for International Medicine), Jackie Nelson from the College of Business, and Dr. Fraser Ottanelli, Chair of History Department. The CI staff and teachers from our partner Qingdao University were also at the meeting.
