USF World Celebrates the Year of the Horse
February 3, 2014

USF brought in the year of the horse at the 2014 Chinese New Year Celebration. Several USF organizations sponsored the annual event led by program MCs, Ke Cheng and Zhengjie Li. The event began with a costumed Lion Dance performed by Mt. Song Martial Art Academy. The dance incorporated the audience as the performers weaved in and out of the crowd performing the traditional moves. Rui Yang and Luo Wu then filled the night with Chinese songs performed on Chinese instruments such as the erhu, banhu, guzheng, and gaohu.

President of the Chinese Culture & Language Club, Rebecca Cuéllar, thoroughly enjoyed the event. “My favorite part was the yoyo performance by Casper,” she admitted, “but I enjoyed all of the events.” The Chinese New Year Celebration concluded with a raffle in which prizes such as gift certificates to local Chinese restaurants and hand painted Chinese vases were a few of the prizes won.

USF hopes to make its Chinese New Year celebration bigger than ever next year when they ring in the year of the sheep.

Sponsored by the USF Confucius Institute, Chinese Students & Scholars Association, Chinese Culture & Language Club, INTO USF and USF World.
