Confucius Institutes Celebrate 10 Years
August 26, 2014
This fall, organizations around the world will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institutes (CI), which promote Chinese language and culture abroad.
Established in 2008, the USF CI focuses on supporting academic programs, organizing cultural exchange events, and strengthening relationships with K-12 partners in the Tampa area. USF will celebrate Confucius Institute Day on September 26th, coinciding with Confucius’ birthday on the 28th. Activities include Chinese dance, Kung-Fu, singing lessons, a tea-tasting, student performances, and calligraphy demonstrations. Additionally, students will enjoy refreshments and a Chinese language lesson.
The USF CI is a partnership between USF and Qingdao University. Since the establishment of the first CI in Seoul, South Korea in 2004, the Chinese Ministry of Education has funded over 400 CIs in more than 90 countries.
