Florida High School Students Completed Summer Camp in China
September 11, 2014
Eleven high school students from Florida completed their Chinese Bridge Summer Camp during July 17 through August 1, chaperoned by Hongxia Zhang, a Chinese teacher at Lake Highland Prep School. The camp was sponsored by the Hanban and coordinated through the USF-CI and Zhang Laoshi, who played an important role in ensuring the success of this Chinese Bridge Summer Camp experience.
The students toured cultural and historical sites in Beijing and spent 10 days in Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang Province. Throughout this camp, students had the firsthand experience with Chinese language, culture and people. The daily activities in Hangzhouincluded Chinese language, calligraphy, Chinese music, tea ceremony, paper cutting, Chinese opera, and Taiji (Taichi) classes. Students interacted with their Chinese peers from Hangzhou Foreign Language School who worked as volunteer in the camp.
Participants and their parents are greatly satisfied with the organization and the outcome of the camp. The trip was made possible with a grant from the Hanban to cover costs within China. For more information, click here or send a message to Chinese@usf.edu.
