A Dozen Chinese New Year Related Events Completed in February 2015
March 11, 2015

In order to meet the growing interests among members of the community and K-12 schools, the USF Confucius Institute worked with numerous partners to provide a dozen cultural events during the Chinese New Year season. The events reached thousands of people in the Tampa Bay region, and improved cross-cultural understanding. Thanks to the efforts of the CI team and support from partners, these impactful events were provided with limited resources.

The main event hosted by the CI and partners was the USF Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration event, held on February 19 in the MSC Oval Theater. More than 500 USF students, faculty/staff and community members attended the event. The event opened with lion dancers from the Mt. Song Martial Arts Academy, followed by a welcome from Dr. Brindley (Vice Provost and AVP for the USF World) and greetings from the co-sponsors. For about 90 minutes, the audience enjoyed a wide variety of performances from professionals and students (including professional musicians Rui Yang, Luo Wu and Changkui Tang, and Peking opera artist Jie Yu). View the event flyer here, and the program here.

Local WTSP/CBS Station event coverage of the event can be found here, and event coverage by Carol Lim can be found on her blog here.
