1. Practicing Calligraphy - July 2015
Continuing Partnership for K-12 Teachers on Chinese Arts and Culture
September 10, 2015

The USF Confucius Institute is honored to continue its partnership with the UF Harn Museum of Art into the fourth year in offering another summer institute on Chinese art and culture to K-12 teachers in Florida. More than twenty teachers attended the two-day summer institute on July 27-28 at the Harn Museum of Art.

The theme for this year is “Art of Character: Calligraphy, Poetry and Storytelling in Chinese Visual Arts.” The sessions include a presentation of Asian art by Allysa Peyton, calligraphy workshop by Eric Casaῆas, lectures on Chinese poetry (by Dr. Cynthia Chennault) and Diversity of Chinese Cultures (by Kun Shi), and printmaking workshop by Patrick Grigsby. The participants had a tour of the rich collection of Asian art of the Harn Museum and experienced the Chinese music by professional musicians Rui Yang and Luo Wu. With guidance of speakers and project manager Brandi Breslin, the participants developed lesson plans for their own classes back in their schools.

The partnership with the USF Confucius Institute also includes an annual Museum Night event in January related to the celebration of the Lunar Chinese New Year.
