2016 OLLI Faculty Roll of Honor Award to Kun Shi
June 27, 2016

Each year, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) presents its Faculty Roll of Honor awards to the volunteer instructors who have taught at least ten courses for OLLI members and other senior citizens of the Tampa Bay region. On June 2, the Confucius Institute director Kun Shi was honored with such an award.

For the last five years, Shi taught eleven OLLI courses on numerous topics about China, including Introduction to Chinese Civilization, Religious Beliefs in China, China’s Cultural History, Contemporary China, and the Past-Present of China. The 2012 fall semester class on Religious Beliefs in China enrolled 52 participants. These courses and cultural events organized by the Confucius Institute have reached hundreds of senior citizens and made significant contributions to cross-cultural understanding.

The USF Confucius Institute is pleased with the partnership with OLLI in providing more courses and cultural activities to the senior citizens. It has offered basic Chinese language classes (taught by teachers from Qingdao University) for community members and USF employees since 2013. A list of the non-credit classes is posted here.
