February 9, 2017
The USF Chinese New Year celebration was successfully completed on January 28 in the MSC Oval Theater. More than 500 USF students/staff and community members experienced artistic performances lasting for an hour and a half. Dr. Roger Brindley, Vice President of the USF System for USF World, delivered welcome remarks and representatives of the main co-sponsors offered best wishes for the Year of the Rooster.
The celebration was opened by three happy lions from the Mt. Song Martial Arts Academy, including a USF color lion holding the sign “Go Bull!” There were 15 performance items such as Peking opera by Jie Yu, music by Changkui Tang and Yadang Li, songs by Heyu Sun and others, Qipao show by Christina Wang and her team, and dances by Mengnan Wang, Tampa Bay Chinese School and Sunshine Dance Group. A special performer is Joshua Hatcherain who sang in Chinese while playing guitar. A full list of the co-sponsors and program is available HERE.
In addition, Pine View School and Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School sent best wishes and brief performance through video clips.
During the Chinese New Year season, the CI also co-sponsored several events organized by the USF community (CCLC on January 26 and Juniper Nation on January 25), community organizations (CAAT on January 14 and SACA on February 11), and K-12 schools (All Saints Academy on January 27 and Lake Highland Prep School on January 31). Total number of participants at the above events is estimated at more than 3,000.
