Another Workshop on Chinese Art and Culture for K-12 School Teachers
June 26, 2017

The USF Confucius Institute (CI) is proud to continue its fifth annual partnership with the UF Harn Museum of Art in offering another workshop on Chinese art and culture for K-12 teachers in Florida. Twenty three teachers attended the two-day workshop on June 20-21 at the Harn Museum of Art.

The theme for this year’s workshop is “Miniature Lessons: Chinese Art for Social Studies, Language & Visual Arts Classrooms.” The sessions include a presentation of Chinese pottery and art by Jason Steuber and Allysa Peyton (Harn Museum Curators of Asian Art), Chinese calligraphy and brush painting by Dr. Nan Liu (Florida A&M University), lecture about China’s diversity by Kun Shi (USF), Chinese music by Haiqiong Deng (FSU), and presentations by K-12 teachers Susan I. Johnson and Sarah Reynierson.

With guidance of project manager Brandi Breslin (Harn Museum), the participants developed lesson plans for their own classrooms. More information about the workshop is available here.

The Harn Museum and USF-CI partnership also includes an annual Museum Night event related to the celebration of the Lunar Chinese New Year, which attracted several hundred visitors.
