Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Donate 10 Chinese Artifacts to the Confucius Institute
August 1, 2017

George (Bern) Griffith is a world traveler particularly to the Greater China region. He traveled to Hong Kong and Macao in the late 1950s, and then made numerous trips to China. Over the years, he accumulated a large collection of Chinese artifacts, some dating back to hundreds of years. Recently, he decided to donate ten items to USF to be displayed for the students and faculty as well as the larger community.

The ten items are appraised at a total value of more than $10,000. Kun Shi (Director of the USF Confucius Institute) and Julie Gillespie (Associate Vice President for Development of the USF Foundation) witnessed the transfer of the donated items.

This donation was made possible due to Mr. Griffith’s appreciation of the work by the USF Confucius Institute and the long friendship with Kun Shi. Mr. Griffith also provided a jade bull to USF President Judy Genshaft and may donate more items to the university in the future.

Jane Griffith has not been to China but loves to learn about Chinese history and culture. Both Mr. and Mrs. Griffith are excellent examples for building bridges between Chinese and Americans. USF Confucius Institute truly appreciates their friendship and will treasure their donated items.
